Children’s Museum of Brownsville Receives Grant from H.E.B. for
New “H.E.Buddy Market” Permanent Exhibit
The $20,000 grant from H.E.B. will endorse a new permanent exhibit in the Museum gallery, a pint-size version of a H.E.B. supermarket called “H-E-Buddy Market.” The hands-on exhibit will be designed for children, ages three to eight, and will come complete with cash registers, supermarket carts, a frozen food aisle, bakery and produce section. The purpose for creating a new interactive exhibit at the Children’s Museum is to enable children to make better food choices at a young age, so they may be able live healthier lives in the future. The idea is that children will form early learning experiences in regards to health and food choices while engaged in productive play at this child-size grocery store. |

The mission of the Children’s Museum of Brownsville is to introduce children to a “World of Learning” through creative, interactive exhibits and activities. The H.E. Buddy Market accomplishes this goal by providing a hands-on supermarket experience that involves health, math and reading. This didactic permanent exhibit incorporates play and learning in a fun, safe environment, all the while promoting a healthy life style. A lesson that will surely be useful to Valley children in combating prevalent deceases such as diabetes.
H.E.B Executives presented the Executive Director and Board of Directors of the Children’s Museum of Brownsville a check in the amount of $20,000 on February 4, 2010. The grant from H.E.B. will serve as a ground breaking for the design and construction of the new H.E. Buddy Exhibit that will be inaugurated later this year.
